The Horde Grows...

Quick update with the latest batch of minis I've painted the last few days.

Three more standard walkers

All of my zombie crowz (for Modern Zombicide, at least. I have another set of 15 for fantasy Zombicide).

Berserker Abomination, Fatty, and Walker

Berserker Abomination, Fatty, and Walker from the back.

Next up, I have a crawler and a Skinner Fatty that are waiting for the shader to cure. I've going to start on a Fatty from The Walking Dead: All Out War and then an A-Bomb Abomination!

Painted Zombies

I haven't painted anything for about 12 years after my first son was born. Time was a big factor, plus the cost of keeping up with the hobby. Now, my boys are older, more self-sufficient, and I have a *bit* more time. Plus, I've amassed a pretty sizable collection of miniatures over the years as well thanks to my love of dungeon crawler board games like Hero Quest, Massive Darkness and games like Zombicide.

I decided a while ago to starting painting again. I acquired a good number of paints and brushes, but it wasn't until after baseball season that I felt I could adequately devote the time to painting so I left it until just last week. Plus, I read about Army Painters dip shaders, and since I'm not trying to win a Golden Daemon, that looked like a fairly quick and easy way to get some minis on the board without a lot of fuss.

Here's the first batch that I consider complete:

The first one, the one on the left took me a good 25-35 minutes to get to the point that I felt I was ready for him to be dipped. The second two went quicker, with basecoats getting put on within 10-15 minutes. While I like the shader, I felt it went on far too thick with the dip method even though I like the results. On the next batch that should be ready for dull coat tomorrow, I brushed on the shader, which I felt went much better.

I'm now moving on to getting my Zombie Crowz painted. I primed them black so about all I'm really painting onto them are their feet/legs, beaks, and eyes. I'm going the extra step of flocking their bases since I'm not wanting to paint their bases, but I want the figures to have a little something extra. I picked up some bird grit from Amazon, so once they are done with paint, I'll get some grit on the bases to look something like gravel.

I also picked up some Citadel Contrast paints to try out a monochrome scheme on my Night of the Living Dead figures minis as well. Looking forward to trying that out!

It feels good to get some color on some figures. I still have a LOOOOONG ways to go, and I've got more zombies coming with Zombicide 2E likely shipping soon. I'll try to keep everyone posted as my horde grows.

Night of the Living Dead and MORE!

So the first of the two big Zombicide kickstarters was delivered a week ago. As I stated back on my TMNT Size Comparison post from last year (wow, it's been a year of waiting...), there was some concern that the 2nd Edition figures would be larger than the 1st edition figures. We should have a better idea now.

This is Ultimate Josh along side Zombicide Mode Tom for NotLD. If it weren't for the thicker base, the figures would be of the same height. The sculpts for the survivors appear to be a bit meatier though, but it shouldn't be too noticeable except to someone who's a real stickler for scale.

Here's one of the NotLD Ghouls along side a zombie from 1st Edition Zombicide. Once again, the new models are "meatier" but still close in scale.

Here's a 1st Edition Fatty beside one from NotLD. Once again, the thicker base makes the new fatty look a bit bigger, but not by much.

Now, the zombies from Night of the Living Dead (sorry, Ghouls) are a bit more statically posed than what we're going to see out of Zombicide 2E. I still suspect the scale will be similar however. All in all, I don't see an issue have figures of either game at the table.

I've also been doing a bit of painting lately. I finished the base and shade coat on the three figs I had of the below sculpt. I still need to add eyes and touch them up a bit once the shader cures. These are the first minis I've painted in 12 years. I'm using the dip method of putting on a basecoat of paint over primer and then dipping the figures into the shader and brushing off the excess. I've got a ton of figures to paint and I'm just going for a quick and dirty paint job to give them a life of "life" when they are placed on the table. (Sorry about the crap photo)

When I finally get around to painting survivors, I'll like take more time and try to do a cleaner job on them.

As for Zombicide news, it sounds like Z2E should start being shipped next month! Now, many likely won't get their copy until after the New Year, but that is great news since most everyone was expecting long delays thanks to the Pandemic. Here's hoping for a Christmas miracle!
