In Praise of Army Painter Speedpaints!

First minis I've painted in a while. Trying out Army Painters' new Speedpaints. I have to say I really like them. They are AP's answer to Games Workshop's Contrast paints, and where I found many of the GW contrast paints to be fairly unforgiving, that's not the case with Speedpaints. The paint goes where you want and it does what it says: bases, highlights and shades. The line isn't perfect for everything, but I highly doubt I'll be buying anymore Contrast Paints any time soon.

These Speedpaints are going to save a lot of time since I won't have to go through the process of dipping the minis in shader which oftentimes takes a day or two to dry before they can be varnished. Get the speed paint on and move along! I got the crawler mini done in less than 30 minutes, so I can really start cranking them out!

I got the rest of the minis done Saturday night. First up are the Vinz Clortho and Zuul from the Ghostbusters board game and the Vinz Clortho and Zuul from the Zombicide Ghostbusters packs. I'm still learning on how to use to the Speedpaints. The Ghostbusters board game figs came out really dark, and the figs for Zombicide ended up essentially the same shade of gray as the primer on my first pass. Kim and the boys both like the darker figs, I rather like the Zombicide figs, but both versions came out fairly well. Plus, the two Zombicide figs were the first time I've tried out Games Workshop's texture paints to make the base more than just flat gray. I liked the results.
The second set of figs all came out really well, except I need to find a better dilution of the White to Gray Speedpaint. The nurse just turned out really gray even after diluting the paint 1 to 1 with the Speedpaint medium. I'm not really happy with it, and I may end up printing another one of that mini in the future to try again.
There are a couple of others that are essentially done, but I'm going to do something special with their bases...
