Swords & Wizardry Setting Idea

Since my last post was a bit darker than normal, I'm going to switch gears a bit here.

I've been kicking around the idea a while of working up a setting for Swords & Wizardry (yeah, another project...blasted gamer ADD) in which I'd use the setting presented in old Gazeteer series for BECMI (Basic D&D) as a base, but add on bits from other settings and adventures I've collected over the years. I've got a ton of material sitting either on my shelf or my harddrive that I've used bits and pieces of or not a all. Plus, I'd like something a bit more "standard faire" that my usual off-the-wall fantasy setting ideas.

I've always enjoyed reading the various Gazeteer books, but I've never ran the setting itself. I've used the occasional city or location, but mostly just used them for inspiration and feel for doing my own thing. I think it would be a good fit with S&W, offer a lot of adventure ideas, and not be too dark or gritty for when my sons get old enough to play (and if they even want to in the first place). Plus, I'm looking at this setting as a sort of getting in touch with D&D history. I'll add in places from Greyhawk, Ravenloft (the bits that still fit the feel), and maybe even a bit of Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance (even then, it would mostly be locations from adventures and such rather than cities or entire lands). Iconic villains and heroes will be part of the setting, but much like any other setting I run in which there are well known heroes (like Star Wars or the Marvel Universe for instance) the chances of those character appearing would be slim.

Ever since I started using Hexographer for my star maps, I've been wanting to use it on a fantasy map as well. This project would be perfect since I want it to be very much like a hexcrawl-type sandbox.

I sure think so, but this is the last thing I need: another project that I'll want to work on, but never have enough time to devote to it like I'd like to.

Too many ideas, not nearly enough time!
